MMPC, DENR kick off Plantation Convergence Project

March 13, 2018 –Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) kick off plantation convergence project in line with the program for Sustainable Integrated Area Development (SIAD).  This is a 100-hectare project within a span of four (4) to five (5) years which will cover areas in Region I-IVA as qualified and endorsed by the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer (PENRO).

MMPC seeded Php2.6 million to initially develop Sentinela Hill into an eco-cultural tourist destination which is endowed with rich flora and fauna which are native (endemic and indigenous) in the province of Ilocos Norte.  The said hill is located within Alienable and Disposal land consisting of 2.2 hectares.  It shall also support a 30-hectare agroforestry development suited for high value crop species, coffee and cacao that will be located in Sitio Paddagan, Brgy. Payac, Bangui, Ilocos Norte.  Thus, providing livelihood opportunities to the community residents.

Present during the turnover and groundbreaking ceremony were DENR Secretary Roy Cimatu, Mayor Fidel Cimatu Jr., MMPC President and CEO, Mr. Mutsuhiro Oshikiri, Congressman Jonathan Dela Cruz, DENR Regional Director for Region 1, Mr. Reynulfo Juan, PENRO-OIC, Mr. Victor Dabalos and other key officials.

In his message, MMPC President and CEO Mutsuhiro Oshikiri shared, “I applaud DENR for their commitment in ensuring the sustenance of the habitat not only here in Ilocos Norte, but also in the different regions of the Philippines. MMPC is delighted to partner with you in your advocacy and rest assured that we, too, will be doing our part for the betterment of the environment.”

 

DENR Secretary Roy Cimatu also expressed his appreciation to MMPC for initiating such project.  He hopes that MMPC shall continually support DENR’s sustainable environmental initiatives for the welfare of present and future generations of Filipinos.
